LOCAL Conservationist, Jenny Loughlin has been awarded a prestigious eThekwini Muncipality Mayor’s Award for excellence in Biodiversity at a Gala event at the ICC recently for her work on the Kassier Road project.
The prize included a beautiful glass trophy, a laptop computer, printer and R10 000 towards the project.
“I was honoured and delighted to have won,” said a very modest Jenny.
Jenny has been working tirelessly on clearing up alien vegetation along Kassier Road, Assagay and in restoring the wetlands at the corner of Kassier and Assagay Roads back to its former glory. She has also been responsible for the removal of alien gum trees in the area. Each tree is responsible for taking up 250 litres of water a day.
The Pay for a Day initiative which sees a company or individual sponsor the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association’s trained gardeners as been vital in helping to maintain this project.
Anyone who is interested in sponsoring a day of work can contact Jenny on 031 765 2758.
