MARIANNHILL SAPS hosted an event to showcase all their programmes for the year and to thank all the people who have assisted them.

Cst Wonderboy Nxumalo from social crime prevention said their aim was to appreciate the work that is done by the community policing forums in fighting crime in the area.

“There are lots of projects that we have been involved in this year and there are many stakeholders who have played a huge role in making our jobs easy.

Members of the CPF’s in the Mariammhill area were rewarded with certificates and also the youth desk.

“With rewarding the youth desk with certificates we want their parents to see that their children are really making a difference in the community.

“The youth desk plays a huge role in helping young people as we have a drug awareness project in school and members from the youth desk assist pupils who are addicted to drugs.

“One of our projects for next year is to create a database for pupils who are addicted to drugs in case the is a rehab centre which comes forward and their help.

“We also want to include the department of arts so that young people can have a platform to showcase their talent, that will really help to keep them off the streets,” said Nxumalo.

Mariannhill CPF chairman Dawood Chirwa said it about time that the community stand together to fight crime especially domestic violence as it has increase.

“We are sick and tired of people who are abusing women and making us men look bad.

“Something is needed to remove liquor outlets in the area, there more than 50 liquor outlets in the Mariannhill area alone and less schools,’ said Chirwa.
