TEEGAN Coulonval (15), a Grade 10 learner at Kloof High School has competed against some of the best riders in South Africa in the under 16 age category in SA Champs held in Durban recently.

Although he did not medal – he had a good race, and gained lots of invaluable experience.

“KZN champs were a real comeback for me after my 2013 disastrous year, and SA Champs was really tough but I enjoyed the strong competition,” said Teegan.

Teegan has been cycling since the age of eight when his best friend, Nick Smith, introduced him to the sport. He is not only passionate about cycling but has shown he has a natural talent for the sport.

He achieved KZN colours for three consecutive years and although he missed his colours in 2013, is determined to achieve them again in 2014.

At the KZN Road and Time Trial Cycling Championships held in Ladysmith in January he won two silver medals. One in the 20km time trial event and narrowly missed gold in the 84km road race when he crashed 100 metres from the finish in the sprint to the finish. He managed to get up and back on his bike, to take second place and another silver medal.

At the moment, he is preparing for his fourth Cape Argus race on 9 March.
