Talented thespians head for Scotland

Four theatrical students will be representing SA at the Commonwealth Games in July.

DURBAN pupils and Rising Star Performing Arts Theatre School students, Christopher Turner, Emily Spencer, Sinikiwe Sifumba and Melissa Strydom, have been selected by the National Theatre of Scotland to represent South Africa at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will be held from Wednesday 23 July to Sunday 3 August.

The talented group will be performing with the International Performing Company at the prestigious event.

The foursome will be flying to Scotland in July and will be involved in one of five devising groups. These groups will work with professional directors, creative specialists, composers, designers, choreographers and technicians to create interactive installations and site-responsive street theatre at the Commonwealth Games.

Gill Brunings, the theatre school director said, “The National Theatre of Scotland will cover accommodation, training and food, while our students are there, but we urgently need help in raising funds to cover flight and visa costs.”
