Karateka aim for top titles in 2014
The Westville based karate academy, FCKA, is confident about claiming top titles at all of this year's events.
THE Future Champs Karate Academy (FCKA) Westville Dojo karateka are ready for the 2014 karate season.
The karateka are trained by Sensei Brando Pillay (5th Dan SKIF-Japan) who was recently appointed as the National Protea Karate Coach for Children, Juniors and Cadets as well as a KSA National Team Selector.
“In 2013 the Westville Dojo were the overall champions in the SKISA team events and produced many KZN and Protea Caps, and I am certain we will reign supreme in 2014,” said Sensei Brando.
On Thursday 20 February the dojo hosted a special Kumite (fighting) training to prepare karateka for the KSA Elite tournament and SA Open championship which took place at DUT from 22 to 23 February.
Riasha Singh (2nd Dan SKIF –Japan), ranked number one in the country as she recently demolished all competition in the University Championships. She kept up the winning streak by striking a hat-trick of gold medals at the KSA Elite Championship and was placed first in the Individual Kata, Kumite and Team Kata.
“I amount my success to hard work, discipline, dedication and most important to my teacher and coach,” said Singh. “Without the guidance of such a brilliant teacher, I would not have attained such success and I thank him for all the hard work he puts into training me.”
“Riasha has an extremely unique talent and ability in karate and I foresee her karate career attaining even higher altitudes,” said sensei Brando Pillay.
