Laptop donation for Gillitts Primary School a huge blessing

Gillitts Primary School received 20 much needed laptops.

THE donation of 20 laptops, Internet connectivity and training for educators by the Department of Communications, Telkom and the Department of Basic Education has been a huge blessing for Gillitts Primary School.

Gillitts Primary School serves an impoverished community which relies on sponsorship and fundraising to supplement funding.

Gillitts Primary School was the only school chosen in KwaZulu- Natal to host the launch day. Department officials, dignitaries and some of the school’s major sponsors, such as Cooke Fuller Garrun Group, Kloof Rotary Club and Durant Civils gathered to commemorate the launch with a formal programme and messages of support from officials, followed by a tribute about the launch by a Grade 7 learner, Ethan Chetty and then the ribbon cutting ceremony at the computer room.

Provinces were able to view one another’s computer labs via video streaming. Learners were awarded the opportunity to utilise the 20 laptops as well as view learners in other provinces in their computer labs.

Ms Arti Jadoo, principal of Gillitts Primary School thanked those responsible for affording Gillitts Primary School the opportunity and for the exposure of modern technology to their learners and educators. She also encouraged principals who are concerned about the sustainability of this programme, to reach out to the private sector for sponsorships.

“There are many kind souls who are willing to assist. It is vital to appreciate and validate your sponsors,” she said
