Super fun at Horse and Hound
The Horse and Hound Extravaganza offered a day of fun for all.
THE threatening rain clouds disappeared and the sun came out in time for the much anticipated Horse and Hound Extravaganza.
Families brought their beloved dogs along for a day of fun in the country for the annual Animal Lodge and Coastal Horse Care Unit event which always has lots of entertainment for everyone.
The Super Dog Challenge is always a big hit as residents and their eager or not so eager hounds attempt the various fun obstacles which included hay bale jumps, a scary black tunnel, an imitation cave, tunnels, tyres, tree logs, stepping stones, weaving poles, and a food challenge as the final hurdle.
The arena classes also received lots of support with fun classes such as Best Dressed dog, Best Matching Outfits, Best Trick, Best Lookalike. The Rescue Dog Category was won by Mouse, a Border Collie with only three legs, who only has partial use in one of the remaining three legs but with only two “working” legs, is still able to run and do tricks.
Carting dog displays, agility jumping demos, Dave Leslie and his magical ponies and a parade of the rescue horses all added to the day’s entertainment. There was also stalls to browse and plenty of food and refreshments to keep everybody, including the four legged kind happy.
Organiser, Kay Sargent from Animal Lodge said, “We did have a great day, I personally thoroughly enjoyed myself, although I never did get to see much as I am stuck at the arena getting the events and prizes organised. I am so glad that people seem to really enjoy the day out in the country.”
She added, “Our sponsors are simply wonderful and without them we could not hold this event and we are very grateful. Thank you to all the people who supported us and any suggestions to help make this a better event would be appreciated.”
Any companies that would be willing to sponsor an event or obstacle can contact Kay at Animal Lodge on 031 783 7865 or the Coastal Horse Care Unit on 031 782 1434.
