Highway Aged needs your support

Highway Aged depends on the community to support all its fundraising initiatives.

SUPPORT Highway Aged, a registered no-profit organisation that provides a professional social work service to the elderly in Pinetown and surrounding areas.

Highway Aged also engages in community based projects such as food gardens, sewing and bead work. Although they do receive a subsidy from the state, that subsidy is insufficient to cover their operation costs. Therefore they rely on public support and donations for their survival.

According to Kevin Moodley, fundraising manager at the Highway Aged, it has become imperative that they engage in fundraising initiatives to remain operational.

“Our projects include Easter hampers, Mother’s Day hampers, annual golf day, a raffle, Father’s Day hampers and a race day this year,” said Moodley.

The golf day takes place at Kloof Country Club on Tuesday 20 May. Cost is R2000 for a four-ball which includes green fees, dinner, and a prize.

The raffle sells at R350 each. It includes a win a cash prize ticket book and promotes cash prizes for R15000 (first prize), R10000 (second prize) and R5000 (third prize). In addition to these three cash prizes there are three other major prizes to be won, one of which could possibly be a holiday. Each person who buys a raffle ticket will qualify for a smaller prize. This raffle runs for a 12-week period from 12 May to 31 July. The draw date for the major prizes is 31 August at 2pm, outside the Knowles SuperSpar in Pinetown.

The next major project is a race day at the Sea Cottage Restaurant at the Greyville Racecourse on Sunday 5 October. Highway Aged is appealing to businesses and corporates to purchase a race. There are nine races available at different rates. Respective businesses will gain advertising in race cards and telly track. Each race buyer will also in return receive 10 free tickets to occupy a table that caters for lunch, snacks and tea. Highway Aged is also selling tables of 10 at R2500 each or individual seats at R250 each.

“Please support these initiatives. Your contribution will indicate your concern and interest for the aged,” said Moodley.
