R50 000 raised for children with diabetes
Nic and Debbie O' Brien ran the London marathon to raise funds for the Sugarbabe foundation.
SUGARBABE Foundation received a donation of R50 000 from Nic and Debbie O’ Brien who ran the London marathon recently to support the organisation.
The O’ Brien’s were inspired to run this marathon after their son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June 2012.
Sugarbabe Foundation provides support to children with diabetes and their families through education and information.
Nic said the London marathon is one of the six major marathons in the world and 75 per cent of the people who take part in it, run for charity organisations.
“The highlight of the journey was the support of London people, the city stands still to support the marathon.
“We felt so blessed to be there as people were shouting and encouraging us, which made it so hard so hard to walk as we did not want to disappoint the fans,” said Nic.
Children with diabetes and their parents were treated to supper and games to celebrate this donation at Westville Life Hospital.
Chairman of the Sugarbabe Foundation Tubby Govender said they are very grateful to the O’ Briens for running the marathon to raise funds for the organisation.
“Sugarbabe is a new organisation and was formed to assist children with diabetes,” he said.
Debbie said that as parents they should stand together to raise funds to assist diabetic children.
“Yes times are tough but I believe that if we work together we can raise more money. Diabetes is not the end of the world,” said Debbie.
