Pinetown strike leaves road flooded

eThekwini Water and Sanitation workers refuse to go back to work until their colleagues who were suspended are reinstated.

HALIFAX Road in New Germany was flooded with water on Wednesday after a meter bust at the eThekwini Water and Sanitation offices.

The meter which bust on Tuesday has not been fixed as the municipal workers went on strike on Monday.

The workers who were standing across the road said they will not go back to work until their colleagues are reinstated.

One of the workers said four workers were suspended and they were told they will be reinstated after 14 days.

“The City Manager, Sibusiso Sithole ordered Neil MacLeod, eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Water and Sanitation Services to reinstate them but that did not happen,” he said.

The workers were also complaining about the manager claiming that he is corrupt and they do not want to work under his supervision anymore.
