Crime down in Kloof

Crime down in Kloof, but residents still urged to remain vigilant.

ACCORDING to Captain Mpungose of the Kloof SAPS crime in Kloof is well under control but residents still needed to remain vigilant, particularly in preventing unnecessary crime such as theft out of motor vehicles which happens at all shopping centres in Kloof and some schools.

There were six residential burglaries, with Glenart Road being hit again. Business burglary remains a concern.

One armed robbery happened in Kloof Falls Road when a driver was pulled off the road and robbed at gunpoint.

Two incidents of common assault took place and one person was kidnapped from Fields Centre and held overnight. Residents also need to be extremely careful when banking with large sums of money.

In surrounding areas, there have been a number of hijackings and Captain Mpungose asked residents to be extra vigilant.

He asked residents not to reverse out of their driveways and to observe their surrounds at all times while in their vehicles.

He also said that Brigadier Zama from the Pinetown SAPS again commended Kloof residents for the stand taken against crime and for their support of local SAPS members.

Land invasions are becoming more prevalent. If you notice any vacant land in your surrounding area is being occupied, it is imperative to report it immediately.

If not reported within 24 hours, and/or before a roof is on the dwelling, it is necessary to resort to legal proceedings to remove settlers. This process is costly and very time consuming.

The numbers to report land invasions are 031 311 4027 or 031 311 4703 or contact Cllr Rick Crouch on 073 418 6996.

If you would like to become involved in the Kloof Street Patrollers contact Corné Broodryk on 083 659 4995 or Sam Shallcross on 072 622 4262.
