Armed men ambush delivery truck

Four armed men ambushed a delivery truck driver and his crew in Botha's Hill and fled with a large amount of cash.

A DELIVERY man was robbed of a large amount of cash in the Talloula restaurant parking lot, on Old Main Road in Botha’s Hill, on Wednesday 28 May at approximately 2pm.

According to Steven King, of Waterfall Crime Watch and SecureLink, the driver and several other crew members stopped at an ATM in Hillcrest along their delivery route to draw money.

The man allegedly drew R15 000 from his personal account, and it is assumed that the delivery vehicle was then followed to the Talloula restaurant, where its crew was confronted by four armed men and pulled from the truck.

It was also reported that the men wore balaclavas and immediately demanded that they hand over the money. “The first thing they said, as they yanked them out of the truck, was “get out, get out! where’s the money?” So, the robbers knew that the driver had a large amount of cash,” said King.

The four armed men snatched the money as well as the driver and the crew’s cell phones, before they fled towards Hillcrest in a white Honda Civic.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
