Pinetown detective commended for his diligent work.

DETECTIVE W/O Terence Soobramoney from Pinetown Detectives won the bust of the month sponsored by Boxer Superstores.

Soobramoney was rewarded for his diligent work in investigating a case of carjacking which led to the suspect being sentenced to 20 years.

Lt Bongumusa Manqele, communications officer at Pinetown SAPS, said, “On 8 January 2013 at about 7.45am the victim (33) was parked outside Hi-Q company in Pinetown when he was approached by two armed men.

“The victim was forced to go to the back seat of the car and they drove towards Clermont where the victim was dropped off.

“On the same day at about 8.30am one of the men was arrested by members of the Durban Flying Squad and the other one escaped,” he said.

A firearm as well as the hijacked vehicle were recovered and the suspect was detained at KwaDabeka police station.

“The man was then linked to a carjacking that had taken place earlier in Pinetown and Soobramoney was assigned to investigate the docket,” added Manqele.

The carjacker made numerous appearances in court and on 22 April this year, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years for carjacking and five years for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
