Potholes plague Pinetown motorists

The severe potholes on Goodwood Road in Pinetown have been plaguing residents for months.

BUSINESS owners and employees are fed up with the state of Goodwood Road in Westmead, Pinetown.

According to Jayesh Pramjee, there are several distressing and dangerous potholes, and many commuters’ vehicles have been damaged while traveling along this road.

“My own vehicle has been damaged. It becomes expensive to constantly repair the damages. The potholes affect our vehicles’ wheel alignment, tyres and suspension,” said Pramjee.

Pramjee also reported that the severe potholes could also cause serious accidents, as people often swerve into the right-hand lane in an attempt to avoid the potholes.

“One pothole runs along the entire left hand lane, and it is impossible to dodge without driving into the right-hand lane,” said Pramjee.

Pramjee reported several of the potholes to the municipality two months ago, but to date nothing has been done to repair the road.

“I have also followed up on the process, but I am merely told that the ‘queries have been escalated to the Road Department’ and then nothing ever comes of it,” said Pramjee.

In an email forwarded to the Highway Mail, Pramjee stated that one of the pothole queries that he had logged had been closed and marked as complete, even though the pothole had not been repaired.

“It is extremely frustrating. Some people have gotten so desperate to minimise the damage to their vehicles that they placed a brick in one of the potholes,” said noted

Neither the Roads Provision Department or the Roads and Stormwater Maintenance, have not commented on the issue at the time of publication, despite the fact that the Highway Mail attempted to contact them telephonically and via email.
