DA candidate for councillor chosen

Meet Bruce Sutcliffe, the Democratic Alliance's candidate standing in the Ward 18 by-election on Wednesday 2 July.

FORMER Ward 18 councillor, Tim Brauteseth, has announced that the Democratic Alliance candidate standing in the Ward 18 by election on Wednesday 2 July is Bruce Sutcliffe.

Sutcliffe was chosen after a rigorous selection process involving numerous candidate interviews by electoral colleges and selection panels.

“Sutcliffe is highly qualified in the accounting sector and in that capacity has done significant financial oversight work in various municipalities across KZN. He will bring that experience and knowledge to strengthen the DA caucus in eThekwini. On a local level, Sutcliffe has extensive experience working with local officials. His straight-forward approach to problem resolution will make him an excellent ward councillor,” said Brauteseth.

Sutcliffe said that while he was honoured and humbled to have been chosen by the DA as the candidate for this important ward, he was also fully aware of the challenges ahead.

“Pinetown and surrounds plays a vital role in the greater eThekwini municipal setup. It contributes 25 per cent of the eThekwini GDP and employs more than 25 per cent of the eThekwini workforce and yet receives a relative pittance in terms of capital or infrastructure expenditure. I will work hard to place Ward 18 where it should be and get it’s due in terms of expenditure. I will also continue Tim Brauteseth’s work in campaigning for a dedicated municipal court and a dedicated Metro Police station to beef up law enforcement in Ward 18,” said Sutcliffe.

Any grouping of residents, such as neighbourhood watches, that would like to meet with Bruce Sutcliffe are welcome to send such a request to ward18@ethekwini.org
