SA 6 Bar record broken at Nissen Winter Classic at Shongweni.

The 2014 Nissan Winter Classic held at the Durban Shongweni Club not only featured five days of top class show jumping but a SA record being broken.

In the Nissan 6 Bar competition on Sunday, 15 June, Lorette Knowles Taylor, riding the 19 year old, Nissan Nabab Forever, broke the South African Record by clearing the last fence at a whooping 2 metres!

In the main class – the Nissan 1.5m FEI World Cup Qualifier – 30 horse and rider combos fought it out for top honours but it was Nicole Horwood on Mark White Nissan Don Cumarco who took first place, followed by Shaun Neil on Clyde Z, with third spot taken by Peter Morrison on MCSA Alzu Luanda, fourth was Bronwyn Short on Fountain of Love and KZN’s Grant Langley on Sissi van der Helle finished a creditable fifth.

Title sponsors Nissan were also pleased with the outcome of the event, and were glad to once again be a part of such a popular show jumping spectacle.

“As many may know, Nissan has been involved in the equestrian arena and activities for a number of years. We have focused strongly on developing Team Nissan and to see how we can support the development of new talent, especially emerging, previously disadvantaged riders, so we can ensure that we can contribute towards their participation in the sport which we believe is very important,” said Nissan’s Managing Director, Mike Whitfield.

“Without a doubt the Nissan Winter Classic and the efforts put in by the team at Shongweni really makes it a show that we feel very proud to be associated with.”
