Local intersections are smash-and-grab hot spots

Motorists reported they felt most vulnerable during peak hour traffic.

THREE smash and grab perpetrators were arrested by the Bellair SAPS on Monday 14 July after a recent spike in smash and grab incidents along the M7.

For the past several months now, numerous motorists have reported smash and grab incidents to both the Malvern and Bellair SAPS, with the N2 and M7 intersection and the Wakesleigh and Sarnia Road intersection being recognised as hot spots.

Unsuspecting motorists reported that during peak hour traffic at both hot spots, they felt most vulnerable as they were cornered in with no where to run to or go.

More often than not the perpetrators of the smash and grabs posed as vendors at the street lights and in recent times have gone as far as meddling with the traffic lights to ensure that motorists stayed at these intersections for longer.

“This problem has been going on for far too long and we as well as the SAPS have been on this case for a while. It was only a matter of time before we caught these criminals out,” said Raymond Moore, Queensburgh Crime Watch chairman. “They can run but they can’t hide,” he added.

Raymond also commended the SAPS for the hard work put into cracking this case.
