Ratepayers Association shuts its doors

Letter to the Editor - week ending 18 July 2014.

EDITOR – The Waterfall Crestholme Residents and Ratepayers Association has reached an impasse, brought about by the lack of support and a reluctance of the ratepayers of the area to become involved in the activities of the association.

For many years the committee, consisting of half a dozen hardy volunteers, have worked tirelessly in the service of the community of Waterfall/Crestholme, all in an effort to ensure that our area received the expected level of service and commitment from the municipality.

The association played a much needed oversight role in preventing illegal developments and unauthorised building operations, monitoring the general health of our suburbs and dealing with so many other ratepayer queries.

Sadly though, because of the general apathy and lack of support in the form of membership, the association has reached the stage where it is no longer viable to continue operating.

To this end, the committee has decided to call it a day, but this is conditional of the general feeling of the residents of the area.

Simply stated, if the association is to continue its work it will need to boost membership and this can only come from the community.

Unless sufficient people show a real desire to support the Association and become members and contribute a mere R50 per annum, or R20 for pensioners, the committee will have no option but to render the association defunct.

If residents believe the association is worthwhile then please contact the chairman. Thanking you all in anticipation.
