Grand Prix puts horses and riders to the test

Riders and horses were tested to the limit during a tough course.

49 of SA’s top horse and rider combinations battled it out during the Harcourts Show Jumping Grand Prix held at the Durban Shongweni Club on Friday, 8 August.

The challenging course built by course designer, Bernardo Costa Cabral from Portugal meant the riders had to pull out all the stops.

The results were:

1st = Dominey Alexander and Discovery Enjoy 68

2nd = Shaun Neill and Clyde Z

3rd = Barry Taylor and Counter Attack

4th = Nicola Sime-Riley and Sunny Park Stables Elpaso

5th = Bronwyn Meredith Short and Capital’s Fountain of Love

6th = Georgina Ratcliffe and Change your Mind

7th = Liam Stevens and Wanda

8th = Nicola Sime-Riley and Sunny Park Stables Connoisseur

Dominey Alexander said after his win, “The Grand Prix was big and testing with the Portuguese international course designer Bernardo really testing our horse’s care and obedience. My horse was the first one in the class and jumped an amazing clear round. With 13 horses going through to the second round I figured that I had nothing to lose as I went in first again. I went as fast as I could and as the rest of the class was unable to catch me, we came out the victors.”
