PREFECT, elected member of the representative council of pupils, a peer counsellor and a successful athlete, Mpilwenhle Mabaso is Pinetown Boys’ High School’s SPAR Star of the Month.

The Grade 12 pupil, set aside his ambitions to play rugby this year to concentrate on being a competitive cross country runner.

PBHS deputy principal, Dave Aitken said, Mpilwenhle was appointed vice captain of the cross country team, and has led by example throughout the season.

“The school team competed in five interschool fixtures this season, and Mpilwenhle has been placed in the top 10 in the U17 age group in each competition, eighth out of 92 competitors at Gelofte, 10th out of 89 at Kearsney, ninth out of 82 at Crawford, fifth out of 77 at Westville Boys’, and third out of 31 at Clifton,” said Aitken.

In the recent Durban and District trials, Mpilwenhle won first place out of 14 competitors.

Aitken added that Mpilwenhle’s goal is to represent the school at provincial level later this term.

“We wish him every success in his quest to realise his ambition. Mpilwenhle is humble about his achievements, he is a true gentleman, the type of pupil that Pinetown Boys’ High School is proud to call one of its own.”
