FOURTEEN people were arrested by Hillcrest detectives for a murder at Nyuswa reserve in the Botha’s Hill area.
Hillcrest SAPS communications officer Lt France Mkhize said the detectives conducted a raid in KwaNyuswa after a murder was reported on Saturday.
“It is alleged that a taxi driver was driving out of his yard at 4.30am when he stumbled upon the body of a man aged about 26 years.
“When the police examined his body they noticed that he had sustained multiple stab wounds to his head and upper body,” he said.
Mkhize added that the deceased was identified as Manqoba Nkosi. “His brother said the deceased lived alone now that his grandmother had passed away.”
According to Mkhize this incident followed another murder on Monday 6 October which was committed a few kilometres away from where Nkosi’s body was recovered.
“The man was attacked and robbed of his phone by two men who were wearing balaclavas and dark clothes.
“His friend managed to escape. He then returned to the scene to check up on his friend and discovered that he was not breathing,” he said.
Mkhize said at this stage it was unclear if these two murders are related but the police are investigating.
Seven men appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate Court on Wednesday and were remanded in custody.
The other seven were released as there was no evidence to link them with the murder case.
