Three injured in N3 car crash

Three people were injured in a car accident on the N3 near the Mariannhill Toll Plaza last night.

ONE person was critically injured while two others sustained serious injuries in an accident on the N3 west bound lane just after the Mariannhill Toll Plaza on Tuesday, 2 December.

“Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment,” said Netcare 911’s Chris Botha.

Netcare 911 and other emergency services arrived at the scene and found a little girl, about five years old, on the roadway with life threatening injuries. She was ejected from the vehicle. Two other people were still in the vehicle, one trapped between the twisted metal of the bakkie.

“While the Netcare rescue officer and firemen used the jaws of life to free the injured, paramedics worked fervently to stabilise them. After the injured were stabilised at the scene they were transported to various hospitals in Durban. The child was transported to the Nkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital,” Botha added.
