CENTRE management at Linkhills Shopping Centre has issued a statement regarding the stabbing that occurred at the centre on Tuesday night.
According to centre manager, Charlene Gray, an altercation took place between two customers at the shopping centre at about 8pm on Tuesday, 20 January. The incident resulted in one person being fatally stabbed.
“Our security, which is outsourced to an independent security company, First In Guards, responded immediately. They were alerted, responded to the scene of the incident and remained on the scene throughout. The centre’s panic button was activated, and back-up from various security agencies, including the SAPS, Secure Link, Blue Security, VEMA and ER24 attended the scene,” said Gray.
Gray further added, “The scene was capable of being secured as the centre is fully fenced with boom gates at the only entrance and exit. The booms were activated. As the centre is monitored by an extensive surveillance system, including 36 CCTV cameras, 24 hours per day, footage of the incident was retrieved and a suspect was identified and subsequently arrested.”
She commended all security agencies and thanked the SAPS for the speedy arrest.
“This incident is most regrettable, and centre management offers condolences to those affected by this unfortunate event. The matter is now in the hands of the SAPS for investigation and we will assist wherever possible,” she said.
Normal trading activities have resumed at the centre.
