Policeman shoots pregnant girlfriend

A case of attempted murder and an inquest have been opened at KwaDabeka SAPS after a policeman shot his girlfriend and committed suicide.

A KWADABEKA police constable committed suicide after he shot his eight months pregnant girlfriend on Wednesday, 18 February.

KwaDabeka SAPS communications officer, W/O Sibusiso Ngcobo, said according to the information received, the police officer had an argument with his girlfriend, who is from Bergville.

The couple were living together as husband and wife in KwaDabeka. It is unknown what the argument was about at this stage, as the victim struggled to speak.

The pregnant girlfriend was shot in the left side of her neck and the bullet exited her right shoulder.

“He then turned his service pistol on himself, shooting himself in the head. He died at the scene,” said Ngcobo.

The woman (22) was rushed to RK Khan Hospital in a critical condition.

A case of attempted murder and an inquest were opened at the KwaDabeka Police Station.
