Pinetown collision creates traffic nightmare

Highway motorists battle through traffic following multiple vehicle accident.

THREE people have been injured after four cars collided on the M13 west-bound near the Stapleton offramp just after 9am this morning.

According to Garrith Jamieson, Rescue Care operations director, paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a truck, a bus and two cars had been involved in a collision.

After a quick assessment it was established that the initial impact forced the truck down an embankment, while the other came to rest on the highway. The three injured people were stabilised on scene before they were transported by Rescue Care to a nearby hospital.

Mervyn Attwell of the RTI said motorists should expect major delays on the highway as clearing up the collision scene will take some time. He also advised drivers to use alternative routes to avoid being stuck in traffic.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision; however, SAPS was in attendance and will be investigating further.

Update: It’s been confirmed that the road has been re-opened but there is still a lot of traffic on the route.
