Crime increase in Crestholme

Hillcrest police warn residents of crime spike in Crestholme.

WITH an increase in crime in Crestholme, Hillcrest SAPS has issued a statement warning residents to take safety precautions.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, said crime is picking up again in Crestholme, especially house break-ins, theft out of motor vehicles and attempted theft of motor vehicles.

“We urge the community to make sure that all doors are properly locked at night or when residents are not at home, and that all windows are closed. They must make sure that alarms are activated, and their vehicles are parked in places that are well-lit and that they are locked. All valuable items must be removed from vehicles at all times.

“Residents who see suspicious people on their properties or any suspicious vehicles nearby must make sure that they are safe and then contact the police,” said Manqele.

The SAPS is also appealing to neighbourhood watches, security companies and Business Against Crime to join forces with the Hillcrest SAPS so they can make a difference in the community.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
