Pinetown murder-suicide couple identified

Police said the motive of the murder-suicide that happened in Pinetown on Wednesday is still unknown.

WHEN vendors in Hill Street, Pinetown set up their tables on Wednesday morning, they never expected that they would have two bodies lying next to their tables.

Terrified vendors said it would take them a long time to forget witnessing the murder-suicide. Michael Majola (39), a security guard from Imvula Security, shot and killed his fiancée, Zethu Ngubane (33), at around 2.30pm before turning the gun on himself.

“We were sitting at our tables as usual when Zethu’s fiancé confronted her. They spoke for a while, then he took her cellphone and went through it. He gave it back to her, and the next thing we knew he took out a gun and shot her, then he walked away and shot himself.

“We are still very shocked, and we do not know what caused it,” said one of the vendors.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cst Phindile Radebe, said it was alleged that Majola shot and killed his fianceé at the corner of Hill and Moodie Streets in Pinetown.

Radebe said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

A case of murder and an inquest will be opened at the Pinetown Police Station.
