Hillcrest police arrest sofa thieves

Hillcrest police are looking for the owners of two sofas that were recovered from two men in the Molweni Reserve.

TWO sofas and seven coloured cushions were recovered from two men in the Molweni Reserve on Thursday.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Manqele, said the three men, aged between 19 and 25, were arrested for possession of stolen property. “They will also be linked to other cases that have taken place in the area,” said Manqele.

In another incident, a Hillcrest SAPS task team arrested two men, aged 18 and 29, in Tshelimyama. “Police were following information about house break-ins that are occurring in the Winston Park area in Hillcrest. Upon arrival in the area, police found the two men in possession of a black and silver Sony LCD TV and remote, among other items, with a total value of around R7000,” Manqele said.

Manqele urged the community to report criminal activity and the people who are committing these crimes. “Crime will never be tolerated in our communities,” he said.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
