Further up a hill of healing

The Field's Hill Helping Hands organisation assists families to get closure.

AS part of their mission to promote peace and help families find closure, the founder of the Field’s Hill Helping Hands organisation travelled to Umzinto Correctional Services with two women who were affected by a Field’s Hill accident in 2013 to meet Sanele May.

Zodwa Cele, a grandmother who lost her daughter in the accident, and Ntombi Duma, a school teacher who had been badly injured, accompanied Karen Janisch, who founded the non-profit organisation following the tragedy in 2013.

May was the driver of the truck that ploughed through five vehicles at the bottom of Field’s Hill three years ago, which claimed the lives of 24 people.

Janisch said, “I have the greatest respect and admiration for these two women who have continued to fight to work through daily obstacles and remain so positive. While we waited for Sanele, Zodwa broke down. Despite feeling emotional she was still adamant she wanted to see Sanele.

“When I asked Zodwa and Ntombi what they were going to say to Sanele, they both replied that they just wanted to tell him that they have forgiven him and he must move on with his life. This is only the beginning of the healing process. Its all in Gods hands.”
