Record broken at Nissan Winter Classic

Lorette Knowles-Taylor, riding Nissan Nabab Forever cleared a whooping 2.05m jump!

One of the highlights of the 2015 Nissan Winter Classic, held at the Durban Shongweni Club from 12 to 16 June, was the incredible record-breaking Adult 6 Bar Competition.

Lorette Knowles-Taylor, riding Nissan Nabab Forever (20), took first place in the adult category while setting a new South African record of 2.05m, breaking her own 2014 record of 2m set at last year’s Nissan Winter Classic.

In the Junior 6 Bar, Sabrina Barbadlia, riding Vision 21, and Ashton Ensor-Smith, riding Rivervale Bold Streak, both cleared 1.75m to tie for the number one position.

Other highlights included the Nissan 1.5m FEI World Cup Qualifier, in which Jonathan Clarke, competing against 34 riders, rode to victory on Felix van de Mispelaere, owned by Di and Mark Slade. Second place was clinched by Lisa Williams on Discovery Campbell, with Samantha Mcintosh riding Let’s Win in third place.

It proved to be Clark’s year as he and Van de Mispelaere also took first place in the Nissan Riders’ Grand Prix Tour, held on Sunday.

KZN’s Jenna Barrow on Parc Pleasure was the winner of the Liberty 1.35m KZN Championship.

The five-day event, sponsored by Nissan, attracted 510 horses and riders and plenty of supporters. Stalls, restaurants and a well-organised children’s playground added to the festivities.
