Dynamic team reaches out to the community

Botha's Hill residents benefit from community upliftment project.

STOMACHS were filled, messages of hope and joy were spread and smiles were placed on the faces of residents in Botha’s Hill who enjoyed a cup of soup and bread on Saturday. The community upliftment project was initiated by Brad and Esmé Nathanson after they were exposed to the challenges that were faced by man who died after being diagnosed with Aids. According to Brad, the man didn’t have proper food and this contributed to the deterioration in his health.

Patrick Bilai, owner of the carpentry store where the 31-year-old man was employed, said, “When Brad came to our store he saw my employee, who was diagnosed in 2010, and he felt the urge to help. He assisted with food and finance and helped as much as he could. This was an eye opener for everyone that we need to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs assistance.”

Brad and Esmé have encouraged other communities to embark on similar projects and ‘pay it forward’ with uplifting deeds.

“Our aim is to enrich the lives of others with a meal and the word of God. We wish to thank the following people for making this morning’s soup kitchen possible – Checkers Hillcrest (Andy Dayanand, Njabulo Cele and Shirley Kleinbooi), SPAR Hillcrest (Mike Egling), Patrick Bilai and his supportive family, Nova, Mike and Maritsa Banks, Eric and Brady Anderson, my dad, Marius Pretorius, and my wonderful wife, Esmé,” added Brad.
