Nine injured in New Germany accident

The jaws of life were used to rescue a man from light delivery vehicle after an accident.

Nine people were injured in a collision between a bakkie and a light delivery vehicle (LDV) early this morning at the Otto Volek and Nipper Road intersection in New Germany.

ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found that one person was trapped in the LDV.

Paramedics worked with Fire and Rescue Services to extricate the man from the vehicle with the jaws of life and other rescue tools.

“He was assessed and found to have sustained serious injuries. All other patients were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries,” said ER24 spokesperson, Chitra Bodasing.

All patients were treated and transported to hospital for further medical care.

The exact cause of the collision is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
