
A GANG of men robbed an ATM in the KwaNdengezi shopping centre on Sunday, 6 September.
It is alleged that a security guard was approached by eight men and held at gunpoint at around 9pm.
According to KwaNdengezi SAPS spokesman, W/O Gesi Sibiya, the gang overpowered the security guard stationed at the shopping centre.
“The information we have at our disposal is that the security guard was by himself when he was approached by three men at the main supermarket gate; when he opened the gate five more men stormed in with guns,” he said.
Sibiya said the security guard was then bound with rope while the men worked to prise open the ATM.
“The men fled with an amount of approximately R200 000,” said Sibiya.
Cases of business robbery, armed robbery and malicious damage to property were opened at KwaNdengezi SAPS for investigation.
“No arrests have been made at this stage, but the KwaNdengezi Organised Crime Unit is following up on a lead regarding one of the suspects,” added Sibiya.
