Mariannhill Licencing Department denies ‘three cars a day’ policy

The allegations were made by a local car dealership.

The Mariannhill Licencing Department has denied allegations made by a car dealership that the department only licenses three vehicles a day.

Kwanele Ncalane, spokesman for the department, said that the information was incorrect.

She explained that car dealers send their reps with a number of documents to register and licence their clients’ vehicles, averaging three to seven vehicles a day.

To assist car dealers, a special counter has been allocated for them with a dedicated person. They leave the documents in the morning and collect in the afternoon.

“If many dealers come all at once, then some documents for licence and registration will be handed to the dealers the following day. The problem is that dealers do not use the allocated counter but stand in the public queue and hog the space and time of the general public at the public counters with their three, five or seven applications for licensing and registration,” said Ncalane.
