New shop for valley crafters

The two organisations thanked all the sponsors who helped make this dream a reality.

THE Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT) has joined hands with Embo Craft to open a second shop that would enable the two organisations us to assist many more crafters.

Paula Thomson from HACT said they are currently supporting more than 1 200 crafters and entrepreneurs.

“The second shop will enable us to serve our current crafters better and add more crafters to the mix. Our focus as always is on grassroots crafters who do not have access to the market. We are hoping that the shop will be able to put back R1.2-million a year to crafters, but this is a conservative estimate.

“The shop, which is ideally situated on the tourist route and right next door to Kearsney College, will be in partnership with Embo Craft and will also create a market for Embo trainees,” explained Thomson.

Embo Craft offers various skills training and development courses to help alleviate poverty. The courses are designed to teach the students to become self-sufficient in terms of providing for themselves and their families.

The Woza Moya/Embo Craft shop will be officially opened on Saturday, 17 October at Embo Craft, 237 Old Main Road, Botha’s Hill.

The opening ceremony will start at 10am and the shop will be open until 4pm. The shop will sell local handmade crafts, clothing, traditional beadwork, wirework, fine art and books.
