A WINSTON Park woman managed to escape with minor injuries after a hijacking outside her property in Reservoir Road just before 11.30am on Saturday, 3 October.
Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, said, “The resident got out of her vehicle to open the gate and when she got back into her car, three hijackers had arrived in a Blue Hyundai Getz. One hijacker jumped out and pulled her out of her vehicle. He fled the scene in her car, with the second vehicle following closely behind,” he said.
The resident sustained minor injuries during the incident and crisis debriefers and Hillcrest SAPS attended the scene.
Jackson advised residents to be vigilant when arriving and leaving home in the mornings and evenings as driveways are hotspots for hijackings.
“Criminals stake out their victims before striking, so it is important to vary your routes to work and home and to be aware of your surroundings before pulling into the driveway. Stop parallel to the verge and make sure there are no suspicious individuals or vehicles around you before opening he gate and turning to pull into the driveway,” he said.
“If you do notice anything suspicious, rather pull off and drive around the block. If a suspicious vehicle or individuals have not moved on when you get back, rather call your security company or the police to investigate,” he said.
