LGE 2026: Meet the DA’s Ward 21 councillor candidate
DA PR councillor and Ward 21 candidate says she is committed to being an accessible and accountable leader.
WITH the 2026 Local Government Elections just around the corner, councillors will be elected for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities across the country’s nine provinces. We asked councillor candidates for Ward 21 why voters should vote for them in the upcoming Local Government Elections and what experience they bring which will help them perform at their best as councillors should they be elected.
DA Ward 21 candidate Hlengiwe Shozi
Having called Ward 21 home since 2018, I understand the daily challenges facing residents of New Germany and parts of Clermont. As the DA PR Councillor for Ward 21, I believe our communities deserve a councillor who is accessible, present and committed to getting things done.
Since my deployment in September 2024, I have worked hand-in-hand with residents, Community Policing Forums (CPFs), ratepayers and municipal departments to tackle service delivery issues. From potholes, damaged roads and faulty streetlights to water leaks, stormwater problems and other infrastructure failures, I have focused on raising concerns and ensuring follow-ups. I have also assisted residents to access municipal services and support where possible.

With 15 years of experience in local government and 20 years as a DA volunteer, I have gained a deep understanding of how the municipality works, the importance of accountability and why community engagement matters.
For me, leadership is not about making big promises during elections. It is about showing up, listening, taking residents’ concerns seriously and holding the municipality accountable to deliver.
I am committed to fighting for safer, cleaner neighbourhoods, better roads and infrastructure, and improved service delivery for all.
I am asking for your support because I bring experience, dedication and a proven track record of serving this community. Together, we can build a better Ward 21 under DA leadership.
