VIDEO: First time voters at New Germany find it quick and easy

Siblings Mongameli and Buhle Cele cast their votes at the New Germany Community Hall on November 4 for the first time.

FIRST time voters, siblings Mongameli and Buhle Cele cast their votes at the New Germany Community Hall (Ward 21) on election day, Wednesday, November 4, and said the experience was quick and easy.

Buhle Cele (18) said as a feminist, she voted for a party that had, through its manifesto, focused on women’s rights and upliftment as well as their safety in a country plagued by femicide.

“I also want a party that will help young people, especially graduates, get employment,” said Buhle.

Mongameli (20) said he hopes that through his vote a leadership would be put in place that would deal with potholes by fixing them.

For Mongameli, the high price of petrol is another concern that should be urgently addressed and he echoed his sister’s sentiments on the creation of job opportunities for the many unemployed youth in the country.

Meanwhile, IEC officials said the voting station at the community hall was opened on time (07:00) with no incidents reported.

By 10:00, Ward 21 voters steadily made their way to the voting station which had a fairly long line that flowed efficiently, with some voters commenting that the queuing had not been time consuming.
