3 arrested for Westville crimes

The suspects will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.

WESTVILLE police arrested a 32-year-old man on Friday 23 October for possession of suspected stolen property. It is alleged that police received a complaint of house-breaking in Somerset Road in Berea West, Westville.

The members immediately rushed to the said address and the suspect was found. Upon searching the suspect, a parcel, wrapped up in an orange bin bag containing bedding and curtains, was found in his possession. The man will be charged and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.

In another case, on Wednesday, 21 October, the Westville Crime Prevention unit arrested two men, aged 22 and 24, for house robbery in Westville’s spaghetti junction. It is alleged that the members were on duty observing the interchange when they noticed two suspicious men over the freeway towards Westville. The members called for back-up to lie in wait in the surrounding bushes to see where the suspects came from. A few minutes later, a complaint of a house robbery in Koningkramer Road was reported to Westville SAPS.

It is alleged that ADT disturbed the same suspects, who were about to flee with the complainant’s vehicle. Within a short time, one man was arrested by the same Crime Prevention members and his accomplice was traced to a house in Chesterville, with the help of the K9 Unit and community members. These two men have been linked to several house robberies reported in the area. They will be charged and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt/Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the arrests. “I praise the Westville SAPS for their efforts in hunting the criminals. We hope that they will be prosecuted and sent to jail for a long time,” she said.
