New era for Waterfall College celebrated

The school's vision is to establish a pre-school in 2016, followed by a Primary School in 2017.

Waterfall College’s annual Speech Day was not only a celebration of the successful completion of the 2015 matrics schooling years but also a chance to reflect on the exciting vision for the 40 acre campus with a pre-school to be established in 2016, followed by a Primary School in 2017.

Principal, Jeanette van der Merwe said in her speech, “Waterfall College chooses to be one of the South African schools that continues to strive for excellence as an educational centre. Despite our size, we want to play a role in uplifting education in SA, by equipping all our students with fundamental skills.”

Guest Speaker, Cindy Norcott, owner and manager of recruitment agency Pro Appointments, as well as Founder of the Robin Hood Foundation and recent winner of the LeadSA KZN Hero of the Year Award for 2015 challenged the Waterfall College students’ definition of success and reminded them of the importance of values in the decisions they make going forward.

Special recognition was given to the following: Dux of School – Michaela Christophers; Proxime Accessit to Dux – Tarryn Lindsey; The Principal’s Award for Exceptional Commitment, Leadership and Integrity – Michaela Christophers and Joshua Wood (Head Boy & Head Girl 2015); Sports Person of the Year Award – Ciara van Niekerk (Majorettes Captain 2015); Madelein Grové Award for Service to the School – Morné Pieters; Jenny Schingler Award for Perseverance – Zanezipho Nxumalo; Steven Grové Award for Most Academic Improvement – Kade Streak.

Mrs Bev Surmon, Head of English and Life Orientation for Waterfall College, gave a touching tribute to the Class of 2015, quoting from passages in Rahl Dahl books personally selected and dedicated to the graduating pupils.

In closing, the annual Guard of Honour was created by all the pupils of the school for the matriculants, providing an emotional but heart-warming farewell and send off for the matrics.
