Man sentenced for raping cousin (12)

The incident was witnessed by the suspect's aunt and a case of rape was opened at Hillcrest police station.

THE Pinetown Regional Court sentenced a 21-year-old man to 18 years’ imprisonment for raping his cousin.

According to Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown SAPS communications officer, on Monday, March 9, the victim, a 12-year-old boy, had just arrived home from school in KwaNyuswa when his cousin locked the boy in his room and raped him.

“The incident was witnessed by the suspect’s aunt and a case of rape was opened at Hillcrest police station. The docket was then transferred to Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and the man was arrested and charged with rape,” said Manqele.

He appeared several times in court and was subsequently convicted and sentenced.
