Couple blessed on New Year’s Eve

A healthy baby boy was born in the ambulance on the side of the road on New Year's Eve.

NEW Year’s Eve became a bigger celebration for a Hillcrest couple when their healthy baby boy was delivered in an ambulance on the N3.

On Thursday evening, 31 December, paramedics from ER24 KZN Highway were contacted to attend to a woman who went into labour at a pharmacy in Hillcrest.

Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesman said nurses from the pharmacy kept the expectant mother, (26), calm while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.

“Medics assessed the woman and then put her in the ambulance to be transported to hospital.”

But the baby had other ideas, Bodasing said paramedics had to stop the ambulance on the N3 freeway close to the Mariannhill Toll Plaza to deliver the baby

“Medics, Athish Mohun and Chris Nxumalo delivered the baby boy at about 4.45pm. Both mum and baby were fine upon assessment,’ added Bodasing.

The healthy baby boy and his mother were transported to hospital.
