Springfield landfill site undergoes rehabilitation

The eThekwini Municipality urges people to dispose waste at other landfill sites as Bisasar Road Landfill in Springfield has been downscaled.

THE eThekwini Municipality has announced that as from Monday, 18 January the Bisasar Road Landfill in Springfield has been downscaled after reaching its full capacity.

The site, which has been in operation for the past 35 years and has accepted more than 19 million tons of waste from throughout the eThekwini region, will no longer be open to commercial customers.

“However it will still accept separately collected/clean garden refuse, cover materials and builder’s rubble, which are required in order to rehabilitate the site,” said eThekwini Municipality head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

The City urges all customers to dispose of their future waste at North Buffelsdraai, West Mariannhill and Lovu landfill sites.
