Hearing aids wanted

If you have hearing aids lying around your home that you no longer use, donate them to the Lions club.

ASSISTING the deaf and hard of hearing is a core project of Lions Clubs International and they are asking the Highway community to donate their old hearing aids.

“We collect old hearing aids from the public and take them to Hear It, who will see if they are reusable. We are often contacted by members of the public who require hearing aids but cannot afford them. We do a quick check to ensure that it is a genuine case and then contact Hear It,” said Lyn Botha, the district chairman for the Lion Club’s Hearing Project.

Hear It will perform the necessary tests and, if they have used hearing aids that suit the patient, they will advise the Lions Club that they will be able to assist. There is a cost incurred to the recipient, for the final test, moulds and reprogramming of the aids.

“We need the help of the public to donate old hearing aids, as we have far more people requiring them than we have hearing aids,” said Lyn.

If you have old hearing aids lying around they can be dropped off at Hear It, Richdens Centre, Hillcrest or Hearing Aid Labs at the Kloof Centre, which are also assisting the Lions club with the project. If you would like to become a Lion or have hearing aids that need to be collected, contact Lyn via email on lynb.za@gmail. com.
