SMALL in stature but powerful in action describes Grade 10 pupil Candice Leslie, Waterfall College’s SPAR Star of the Month.
The gold medal winner has made it through to KZN provincial level in the sporting discipline she loves. On 7 February, she won gold in the kata (technical) and bronze in the kumite (fighting) in the junior category at the Karate eThekwini Region Championships. Candice is a junior Black Belt 2nd Dan who has represented South Africa internationally in karate.
Candice’s parents, Sam and Shaun Leslie, said, “We are immensely proud of Candice not only for her results, but more for the true sportsmanship she has when competing.”
Waterfall College’s karate coach, Christine Eriksen, said, “Candice is an extremely dedicated and hardworking pupil. Her strong work ethic and attention to detail is why she is so successful. Candice is always positive and uses this positive mindset to help her achieve her goals.”
Greg Kyle, Head of Sport at Waterfall College noted that Candice was an incredibly responsive and enthusiastic pupil, who he believed would continue to shine both inside and outside the classroom.
