Missing man (69) found murdered

Police arrested a 20-year-old man that was found in possession of a pension card.

AN elderly man who went missing on Friday, 18 February was found murdered and his body burnt in Embo.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, police received a complaint of a missing man (69).

“A case of a missing person was opened and the docket was allocated to the detectives. Police started their investigations and received information about a man who was in possession of a pension card and the pin code of the elderly man who was reported missing.”

Manqele said police went to the address where they found a man (20) in possession of the old man’s pension card.

“He was taken to Hillcrest Police Station for questioning, a case of murder was opened and the suspect admitted to the crime. The suspect took the police to the scene of the crime and the ashes and the remains of the skeleton were recovered on Monday, 21 March,” he said.

The remaining bones and the ashes were taken to Pinetown Mortuary for forensic investigation.

The Hillcrest acting station commander, Col Anton Myburgh, commended the good work done by police and the investigation conducted to solve this case.
