Police talents shine in music competition

Choristers from five clusters within the province pitted their talents against each other.

THE SAPS held a Police Music and Cultural Association (POLMUSCA) competition.

POLMUSCA was established by the South African Police Service in 1993 to promote, develop and manage music, arts and cultural activities within the Service.

It supports crime prevention initiatives through community outreach programmes, promotes unity and cross-cultural communication within the service and communities, contributes to the social wellbeing of members and promotes and improve relations between the SAPS and the community.

The KwaZulu-Natal 2016 POLMUSCA elimination competition was held at the UGU Sport and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe on Saturday, 4 June.

Choristers from five clusters within the province – Umzimkhulu (UGU), eThekwini (Durban), Midlands, Ulundi and uThukela – pitted their talents against each other.

The other categories forming part of the competition were ballroom dancing, potjiekos, cultural exhibition and traditional dancing. The performances were of a very high standard and the judges had a difficult time choosing the winners.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cpt Bongumusa Manqele, said eThekwini Inner and Outer West clusters won the cultural exhibition category and came third in the potjiekos category.

“The police music festival plays a very important role in marketing the police image and public relations,” he said.
