Dr Thakur to lead SA delegation in Canada

LOCAL financial advisor, Dr Pravin Thakur, is bound for the city of Vancouver, Canada for the annual Million Dollar Round Table Club (MDRT) meeting from Monday, 12 to Wednesday, 15 June. Dr Thakur,who is also the national chairman, will be attending the conference that will attract 11 000 members from more than 74 countries across the globe.

He has been tasked to lead the South African delegation of 25 top professionals at the conference. “I am looking forward to actively engaging with experts and thought leaders from various fields at the conference – economists, sociologists, academics, psychologists, all of whom bring something for us to ponder and reflect on which is of enormous benefit to us when we sit with our clients and advise them on their financial needs and requirements,” he said.

Dr Thakur will participate in seminars, workshops and panel discussions on world trends of financial planning for individuals and corporate, especially dealing with inculcating a culture of savings among citizens for the national good of countries.

Some of the other issues relate to the significance of the evolving profession of financial planning, the methodology that a trained and skilled financial planner employs in the executing of his task, how and why financial advisers are remunerated for their time, the various levels of services and how financial advisors can play a role in the national development of countries in which they are recognised.

Last year, the Malvern resident was designated as the South African flag bearer at a conference in New Orleans in 2015 and tasked with carrying the flag on the stage at the glittering opening ceremony of more than 10 000 insurance professionals from across the globe. “It was a proud and humbling moment,” he said.
