Man sentenced for robbing an elderly man

The victim was stabbed on the hand and also robbed of his gold chain.

THE Pinetown Regional Court sentenced Siyanda Sduduzo Mngoma (27) to 12 years imprisonment for robbery.

“On 20 March 2015 at approximately 10am, the victim (68) was driving his vehicle at the intersection of Josiah Gumede and Anderson Roads when he was approached by four men armed with knives,” said Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cpt Bongumusa Manqele. The victim was stabbed on the hand and also robbed of his gold chain.

“Police, who were doing observation in the vicinity, witnessed the incident and they managed to arrest one of the men and three others fled the scene on foot,” he said.

The arrested man later appeared in court and was refused bail. He made several appearances in court before his sentencing.
