Miss Earth brings nature lovers together

Mireesha and Melissa recently took part in a community ‘Love Day’ together recently which was arranged by The Unlimited.

THE Miss Earth South Africa has brought our local earth warriors, Mireesha Narsai from Kloof and Melissa Schreiber from Drummond together in friendship and teamwork.

These young women are both currently regional finalists in the Miss Earth SA programme and hope to make it to the finals together in September.

Mireesha, an avid plant based food blogger, Melissa an animal activist, and their shared love for the environment makes them the perfect team.

The girls took part in a community ‘Love Day’ together recently which was arranged by The Unlimited. The call was for anyone in the highway area to help spread the love to 330 children and transform five crèches.

Mireesha and Melissa were allocated to a creche in KwaNyuswa, where a bus load of volunteers fixed the playground, built a bicycle track, planted a veggie patch and fruit bearing trees, painted classrooms and fixed the bathroom.

“It was a day of enthusiasm, passion, laughter and fun. Everyone was there for the same reason – to change lives. The transformation is incredible. It was also inspiring to see so many people come together out of the goodness of their hearts,” said Melissa.

This month, they will travel to Johannesburg where all regional finalists will be participating in various greening projects. As there is also Mandela Day to celebrate, the girls encourage every person in South Africa to dedicate their 67 minutes of service to a cause close to their hearts.

Each regional finalist is required to collect non-perishables for a charity of their choice. Melissa is collecting for KZN Valley Dogs and Mireesha for La Lucia Baby House.

The girls sum up their Miss Earth SA journey, “What an incredible experience. We have had the pleasure of planting trees and teaching children about mother nature. Cleaned numerous beaches, , roads and had a great time doing it.

“We laughed, played, got our hands fabulously dirty but best of all our eyes sparkled throughout. We thank God for giving us hands, feet and a voice to teach people about his creation. We thank him for new friends, sunshine and rain and also the Miss Earth pageant, for this unforgettable opportunity to really make a difference,” Mireesha said.
